Planning Permission no longer required!
Its been along time since I got excited about Planning Permission! But I am now - as a recent Government amendment to Permitted Development Rights is good news for community property. The Order means that, from 6th April 2012, a solar PV system being retro-fitted on non-domestic property will no longer require planning permission - saving valuable time and money.
Of course, there are some exceptions, which will still need an application including solar PV installation on a scheduled monument, on a listed building or on a building within the curtilage of a listed building or on other land with restrictions such as article 1(5) land, where the solar PV equipment would be installed on a wall or roof slope which fronts a highway.
In essence the solar PV installation must minimise the visual impact on the property and the amenity of the area.
This is really goods news if you've been planning a project but its become 'stuck' as it provides the real possiblity of getting your project installed before the next Feed-in Tarrif reduction in June 2012.
